Georgia Senior Horse and Rider Photo Session With Kyra

Updated: Nov 6

Kyra, a member of the Athens Academy Class of 2025, and the striking mare Jupiter were an impressive pair during their recent horse and rider portrait session. Despite a packed schedule that included a Saturday horse show, a Sunday high school graduation, and a midweek photo shoot, Kyra remained composed and focused throughout our time together.

The session took place at her home farm, located about thirty minutes outside of Athens. The property is home to both their personal horses and boarders, and features expansive paddocks, a winding paved driveway, wooded trails, and two serene ponds. With so many scenic backdrops available, we chose to begin in the shaded areas as the afternoon light was still quite strong. By the end of the session, the sun had softened into a warm golden glow, creating an ideal setting for our final shots.

Jupiter is Kyra’s mother’s horse, raised on the farm since birth. She is a Belgian and Friesian cross, with her sleek black coat clearly reflecting her Friesian heritage. Now six years old, Jupiter—affectionately called Jupiter Ann when she is being mischievous—is most often worked outside the arena. Her training includes extensive desensitization and obstacle work around the property, which has made her both observant and responsive. She was alert and curious throughout the shoot, and we had no difficulty catching her attention using the tools I bring to every horse and rider session.

To close out the session, Kyra rode Jupiter bareback. While this is not a required part of every portrait session, I occasionally include it with experienced riders who are confident riding their own horses without a saddle. Jupiter responded beautifully to just a halter and leather lead, and the calm walk back to the barn with the evening light behind them was the perfect way to end our time together.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to capture these moments of Kyra and Jupiter during such a memorable chapter of her senior year. Their bond, set against the natural beauty of the farm, made for an unforgettable horse and rider portrait experience.
