Behind the Scenes of Georgia Equestrian and Livestock Photography

Working across Georgia, I photograph equine, livestock, and senior sessions for riders, exhibitors, and students who want their photos to reflect the activities and passions that shaped their lives. Every session is unique, guided by the client’s vision, the environment, and the animal’s personality. I use these factors, along with my photography skills and knowledge of animal behavior, to create one-of-a-kind portraits in any situation.

These behind-the-scenes highlights show how I approach each session to produce high-quality, professional equestrian, livestock, and senior portraits.

Maya & Bronco: Equestrian Senior Portraits Near Athens, GA

Maya’s senior portrait session focused on her equestrian journey with her paint horse, Bronco. This horse and rider photo session near Athens, GA highlighted both Maya’s graduation milestone and her equestrian journey with Bronco.

During this session, I paid special attention to natural light and composition. I positioned the sun behind Maya to create backlit illumination with gentle light filtering through the trees. To add complexity to the composition, I used the pasture fence as a leading line, directing viewers’ attention to Maya and Bronco’s clear partnership.

Christian’s Livestock Senior Portraits | Georgia FFA Photos

Christian’s senior portraits took place around a pond on a Saturday evening with his final FFA commercial dairy show heifer. Including his favorite animals in this FFA livestock portrait session reflected his many years of dedication as a livestock exhibitor.

We took a short hike around the pond to reach the most ideal combination of light and background. Even late in the fall, golden hour light poured through distant tree leaves. The tall pond grass added depth to the scene, naturally filling the space between Christian and the tree line.

Sydney & Legro: Horse Senior Portraits Near Athens, GA

Sydney and her horse Legro brought a lot of fun and personality to this equestrian senior photo session. In addition to their show ring success, Legro is especially meaningful to her as he is the first horse she’s cared for on her own.

To work with Legro’s natural curiosity and energy, I guided Sydney to walk him along a paved driveway, stopping occasionally for heartfelt poses. Observing his engagement allowed me to capture interactive and expressive images without forcing him into long-standing positions, creating horse and rider portraits that feel authentic and carefully composed.

Kloe and Her Sheep: 4-H Senior Livestock Photography

Kloe’s sheep session focused on the projects she has dedicated six years to as a Georgia 4-H member. These livestock portraits highlight the care and attention she invests in raising and training her lambs for much success in the show ring.

To make the final livestock photos look intentional and precise, I had Kloe square her sheep at every stop. They were so well trained that it made my job easier, allowing me to focus on capturing the clear connection between Kloe and her sheep.

Reese and GiGi: Fall Equestrian Portrait Session in North GA

Reese’s fall equestrian session with her accomplished mare GiGi took place in North Georgia, using open pastures, board fencing, and warm evening light. The setting provided a natural backdrop for equestrian portraits.

As a rider myself, I recognized when GiGi was getting stimulated by deer along the tree line. Reese kept GiGi’s attention on the photoshoot, and I remained calm and deliberate in my actions. Our careful approach allowed us to create smooth and visually striking fall imagery.

Skye and Gomez: Georgia FFA Cattle Senior Portraits

Skye’s session with her steer Gomez occurred at her FFA livestock barn, beginning in a pecan grove and transitioning to his home pasture. Gomez was a special steer, winning classes at the state level, and it was clear how much he meant to Skye as her final FFA beef cattle project.

We started in the pecan grove, but Gomez evidently felt more at home in his pasture. An animal’s comfort, along with its owner’s, is my highest priority, so I adjusted to the environment rather than forcing him to stay in an area that unsettled him. By using natural lighting and creative angles, I produced professional livestock portraits despite the unplanned setting.

Lottie Mae and Coco: Georgia 4-H Dairy Cow Photography

Lottie Mae’s session with her dairy show heifer Coco took place during their final week together before Coco returned to her home dairy farm. Documenting this final time through the Georgia 4-H and FFA Commercial Dairy Heifer Program was an honor.

We photographed in a tall sunn hemp field full of yellow flowers. The plants were taller than Coco, so we gave her plenty of time to acclimate to the surrounding vegetation. By prioritizing her comfort upfront, she and Lottie Mae were able to model naturally, resulting in polished and relaxed cow portraits.

Sessions like these show that meaningful animal portraits come from more than good light and location. They rely on understanding animal behavior, working patiently with exhibitors, and creating an environment where both can stay comfortable and focused.

Drawing on years of experience with horses, livestock, and youth exhibitors, I guide each session to run smoothly while keeping the focus on authentic, beautiful images. It is a privilege to create photographs that reflect the dedication, connection, and memories between animals and their people.
