Earlier this season, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Sydney and her horse Legro at their home barn in between Atlanta and Athens, Georgia. Sydney is a senior and will graduate with the Class of 2026. Between school, basketball, riding, and working at multiple farms, including the UGA Equestrian Center, she’s one of those people who manages to do it all with grace and determination. Her senior portrait session, combined with horse and rider portraits, was a beautiful celebration of her hard work and deep connection with Legro.

Sydney is planning to continue her journey at the University of Georgia in Athens, where she hopes to study equine science and nutrition. That path makes perfect sense after hearing how much she’s already immersed in the horse world. Legro, her sweet and goofy 8-year-old Oldenburg gelding, is the first horse Sydney has leased and cared for independently. That responsibility has taught her so much, not just in the saddle, but also in the day-to-day realities of horse ownership — from paying bills to managing training schedules.

Together, they’ve been training and competing in the hunter division, and recently had an amazing moment together when they placed second in the Classic Over Fences class. Sydney lit up as she told me about that memory, and it was clear how proud she was of their progress as a team. Legro’s big personality also came through during the session. He loves attention, lives for being the center of everything, and was certainly curious of the world around him. We had no trouble keeping his ears up. A fun fact about Legro is that he loves horse trailers, a good trait to have as a show horse.

Creating custom horse and rider portraits of Sydney and Legro was a reminder of how special the bond between horse and rider can be, especially during these defining high school years. The trust, teamwork, and laughter they share made this senior portrait session one to remember. I’m so excited to watch where the future takes them, both in and out of the arena.
