It was so great to reconnect with Holt, a former client of mine who’s now studying at UGA. During his senior photography session, we had a blast capturing some fun memories, including photos of him with his two favorite dairy heifers at the Perry State Fair. Check out a few of the outtakes below!
Holt’s journey in agriculture started early. He began showing commercial dairy heifers in 4th grade, the youngest age you can compete, and kept it up all the way through high school. Each year, he’d show up to three heifers, and he always went for Brown Swiss—his favorite breed. In a sea of black-and-white spots, Holt’s grey/brown heifers always made him stand out.
But showing wasn’t the only thing he was involved in with 4-H. He was a key member of the state-winning Dairy Judging team, where participants evaluate cow conformation. He was also a part of the state-winning Dairy Quiz Bowl team, a fun, jeopardy-style competition testing everyone’s knowledge of dairy science. These wins earned him trips to Madison, WI, and Louisville, KY, for their national competitions. As the Georgia delegate, Holt even got another trip to Wisconsin for the National 4-H Dairy Conference.
Holt’s love for agriculture doesn’t stop at cows. Growing up, he developed a deep passion for horses, especially in the western horse world. His favorite discipline is roping. He even won Senior Champion in the Ranch division at the State 4-H Horse Show. And at 15, Holt went to work at a big horse training facility near his home. He took home understanding of training and has become quite the horse trainer himself!
It’s too bad we didn’t get to do any senior photos with his horse, too. But honestly, we had such a fun session filled with great moments and lots of smiles. It’s always a joy to see how far past clients like Holt have come, and I’m so excited to see where he ends up after Athens!
