GA FFA Livestock Senior Portrait Session with Haley and Queen

This summer, I had the opportunity to photograph Haley and her ewe lamb, Queen, during a livestock senior portrait session near Athens, Georgia. Livestock portrait sessions are about much more than creating beautiful photographs. They celebrate the dedication, responsibility, and partnership that exhibitors build with their animals throughout the show season.
Queen is a five-month-old, 100-pound natural ewe with a confident and slightly sassy personality. According to Haley, one of her favorite things about Queen is that she "moves freely and kind of decides what she wants to do and who she wants to be." That independent personality makes Queen unique and is one of the many reasons Haley enjoys showing her.
Haley has been showing lambs for the past five years through North Oconee FFA, where she competes in both showmanship and weight classes. While she enjoys the competition, her favorite part of showing is the people she has met along the way and the opportunity to continue learning about the agriculture industry.
"My favorite part is making connections with others and learning more about the industry that gives so much to the great Americans in this country. No one would be alive without agriculture."
Her dedication to agriculture extends far beyond the show ring. Haley serves as President of the North Oconee FFA chapter and also participates in Prepared Public Speaking and Forestry Field Day. Earlier this year, she spent time teaching sixth-grade students at Malcom Bridge Middle School about agriculture and FFA.
One of Haley's proudest accomplishments has been being inducted as a 2026 Georgia National Fairgrounds Livestock Ambassador. Earlier in the summer, I had the chance to photograph another GA National Fairgrounds Livestock Ambassador, Sara Morgan. You can view her post here.
Recently, Haley brought her lambs home after boarding them at North Oconee High School's FFA barn. Having them at home has made practicing and everyday care much easier for both Haley and her family, while also providing the perfect location for her portrait session.
We photographed the session on a bright summer evening at Haley's home just outside Athens, Georgia. Along one side of the property, a quiet road created beautiful leading lines that naturally drew the eye toward Haley and Queen. We also took advantage of a patch of flowers where the evening sunlight filtered softly through the surrounding pine trees, creating beautiful natural light for their portraits.
One thing that stood out to me throughout the session was Haley's patience. Working with livestock always requires flexibility, and she consistently repositioned Queen with kindness and encouragement. It was easy to see the time, care, and training Haley has invested in her animals over the years. Those moments often tell the story of an exhibitor just as much as the finished portraits themselves.
Since Haley is also a high school senior, we included individual senior portraits as part of the session. Combining senior portraits with livestock photography is one of my favorite ways to tell the complete story of this season of life, celebrating both the exhibitor and the animals that have played such an important role in the journey.
Livestock portrait sessions preserve much more than ribbons and banners. They capture the countless early mornings, late nights, lessons learned, friendships made, and partnerships built along the way. Whether your show career is just beginning or coming to an end, those memories deserve to be remembered long after the season is over.
Thank you, Haley, for trusting me to photograph you and Queen. I hope these portraits serve as a lasting reminder of your time together and everything you've accomplished through North Oconee FFA.
