Farm Animal Photoshoot

One of my favorite things about being an equine and livestock photographer is capturing the special relationships people share with the animals that have shaped their lives. Sara Morgan's session was exactly that, a celebration of the horses, goats, and cattle that have been by her side through years of showing, hard work, and unforgettable memories.

At her family farm in Central Georgia, we photographed her blue roan Quarter Horse, Sven, retired Boer goats Molly and Scarlett, and her promising Brown Swiss dairy heifer, Ellie. As a lifelong horse and livestock exhibitor myself, I know these animals are so much more than show projects. They're family. Making sure each one had their moment in front of the camera was incredibly important to both of us.

Horse Photoshoot

We began the session with Sven, Sara's seven-year-old gelding. While the pair enjoys plenty of trail rides together, the show pen is where they truly shine. From Georgia 4-H competitions to Quarter Horse shows, they've collected their share of blue ribbons along the way.

Sara says her favorite thing about Sven is his bubbly personality and willingness to tackle anything he’s asked to do. One of their proudest accomplishments was qualifying at the Georgia 4-H State Horse Show to compete at the Southern Regional Horse Show—an achievement earned by only a select few exhibitors in each division.

Never one to stop learning, Sara and Sven are looking forward to trying cutting, adding another exciting chapter to their journey together.

Goat Photoshoot

Next up were Molly and Scarlett, the family's retired Boer show goats. Although their days in the show ring are behind them, they're thoroughly enjoying retirement.

Twelve-year-old Molly, the white goat, still likes to be in charge and carries herself with plenty of confidence, balanced by a sweet and gentle personality. Scarlett, the eleven-year-old red goat, brought a little more spice to the session. Protective and full of attitude at first, she eventually decided the camera wasn't so bad and relaxed into some of my favorite portraits of the day.

Cow Photoshoot

We wrapped up the farm animal photoshoot with Ellie, an August 2025 Brown Swiss dairy heifer whose goofy personality made every minute entertaining.

Despite being just shy of a year old, Ellie is beautifully put together and has already made a name for herself in the show ring. She earned a coveted blue ribbon at the Georgia 4-H & FFA State Livestock Show in Perry and was named Grand Champion at the Putnam County Briarpatch Classic Dairy Heifer Show.

Sara is excited to continue Ellie's successful show career this fall at the Georgia National Fair, and after spending an evening with them, it's easy to see why she's so optimistic.

Behind the Session

We started at Sara's home farm, where a long gravel driveway framed by cattle pastures immediately caught my eye. The leading lines and natural symmetry created a timeless backdrop for Sven and the goats while adding depth and balance to every image.

As golden hour approached, we moved to a nearby historic plantation featuring beautiful gardens, flowers, weathered buildings, and open fields. Positioning Sara with the setting sun behind her created the warm, glowing light that every photographer dreams of and perfectly highlighted both Sven and Ellie.

The combination of meaningful locations and golden evening light made this session feel authentic to Sara's life and the animals she loves most.

Why Livestock and Equine Photos Matter

The years spent showing horses and livestock pass far too quickly. Show halters get hung up, ribbons are packed away, and favorite animals eventually retire, but the memories remain.

Professional portraits preserve more than accomplishments—they capture personalities, partnerships, and the countless quiet moments that often become the ones we treasure most. As a horse and livestock photographer, I believe sessions like Sara's are about more than taking beautiful pictures. It was about documenting the animals that have shaped her journey and celebrating the bond she shares with each one.

If you're looking for timeless equine, livestock, or farm animal portraits in Georgia, I'd love to help tell your story. Whether you're celebrating a show season, a beloved retirement horse, or a promising young heifer, these moments deserve to be preserved for years to come.
