For any Georgia 4-H or FFA livestock exhibitor, the state show in Perry, Georgia, is the pinnacle of the livestock season that begins earlier in the winter. Students spend December, January, and February preparing their animals, fine-tuning daily care routines, practicing showmanship, and dedicating countless hours to their projects. All of that hard work leads to the largest five species livestock event in Georgia, the GA 4-H and FFA State Livestock Show.
Hosted at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agri-center, this premier livestock event brings together beef cattle, commercial dairy heifers, goats, sheep, and pigs for nearly half a week of competition. Families and exhibitors travel from across GA to showcase the dedication, discipline, and responsibility they have poured into their livestock projects. Beyond the banners and placings, the show represents commitment, growth, and the culmination of an entire season.
Abigail is a shining example of that dedication. As a commercial dairy heifer exhibitor, she wanted to commemorate her sophomore year with a special cow photo session featuring her June heifer, Charlene. Weighing 540 pounds, Charlene brought both presence and personality to the ring, as she won her weight class to receive a coveted Perry blue ribbon. Abigail especially loved Charlene’s spice and her lively spirit. One of her favorite things was how Charlene would lean in and relax when scratched under the chin, a small moment that reflects the trust built between exhibitor and animal.
The 2026 season marks Abigail’s second year showing. Through 4-H and FFA, she has discovered that livestock projects are about far more than competition. Showing has allowed her to build lasting friendships and develop a meaningful bond with her heifer. She credits the dairy program with teaching her patience, perseverance, and how to work for the goals she sets. Abigail currently serves as the FFA Secretary for the Putnam County High School FFA chapter, further demonstrating her leadership within the Georgia agriculture community.
While at the state show, Abigail competed in the dairy fitting competition before quickly changing into her cow photo outfit so we could catch the evening light. We made our way to the clock tower and pond area just minutes before sunset. The sky turned a brilliant shade of orange as golden hour settled over the fairgrounds. In those quiet moments, we captured both posed and candid images that highlight the authentic connection between exhibitor and animal.
Golden hour livestock photography sessions are ideal for Georgia 4-H and FFA members. The soft, warm light creates a timeless look while keeping the focus on the relationship at the heart of every project.
From cows to pigs, sheep, and goats, these livestock portraits preserve more than a show season. They capture dedication, growth, and the story behind each livestock journey.
Below are a few outtakes from our Perry cow photo session, celebrating one exhibitor, one heifer, and one unforgettable livestock show season.
