I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Violet and her 4-H commercial dairy heifer, Dally, in one of the most vibrant sessions of the season. We shot at golden hour in a field full of yellow Sunn Hemp flowers that made everything glow.
This session was especially meaningful because it celebrated the end of Violet and Dally’s 2025 winter and fall cattle show season. It marked months of hard work, growth, and a strong partnership. Violet spent a lot of time taming, desensitizing, halter breaking, and training Dally for the show ring. Every bit of that effort showed in how well they worked together.
Dally has a strong personality. She’s bold, a little sassy, and not always the easiest heifer to handle. But Violet guided her with patience and confidence. They competed at shows in Athens, Madison, Gwinnett County, and Perry. Highlights of their season included the State 4-H and FFA Livestock Show in February and the Perry Fair in October.
Even more exciting, Violet is only a junior. She still has one more year to raise and connect with her final heifer for her senior season. I’m already looking forward to seeing where that next journey takes her.
A Field of Flowers and a Partnership Worth Celebrating
After the fall season wrapped up, Dally returned to our farm to begin her next chapter as a dairy heifer. She is now getting ready to be bred and eventually become a productive milk cow. Before that transition, we took advantage of the field across from her pasture. It was full of blooming yellow Sunn Hemp and made the perfect backdrop for their portrait session.
That afternoon, Dally had a fresh bath and brought out her show halter one more time. As the sun began to set, we walked into the field. The warm light lit up the flowers, Violet’s deep blue dress, and Dally’s black and white coat. We captured a mix of posed shots and candid moments that reflected their bond perfectly. Calm, confident, and full of trust.
More Than a Portrait Session
These livestock photo sessions mean so much more than pretty pictures. They capture the heart of the 4-H and FFA experience. Early mornings in the barn, long days at the show, lessons learned, and the quiet connection that grows between a showman and their animal.
Violet and Dally’s livestock portrait session was a perfect example of why I love photographing Georgia 4-H and FFA youth. Their work ethic, heart, and dedication shine through in every frame.
